St. Andrew’s College Retreat

Total tuition for full-time study per academic year:
M.Div. – 5 courses per semester at McGill
STM – 4 courses per semester at McGill, plus full year of UTC integrative courses

*All tuition fees are paid by students directly to UTC.
**McGill student fees for University services are set by McGill and must be paid directly to McGill. Students will be billed directly by McGill for the precise amount but should budget approximately $ 1400 / year for full-time student fees. All tuition fees are paid by students directly to UTC.

Financial Aid

The United Theological College is honoured to have been the recipient of numerous gifts and endowments for the support of women and men in formation for various expressions of Christian Ministry. With care, these gifts have grown and as a result we are able to offer generous support to participants in our program.  In most instances, the terms of the gifts are denominationally specified and restricted to women and men in preparation for ministry in the United Church of Canada. This may mean that support for those from other traditions is more limited.

Applications must be received prior to the following deadline: June 21st at 12 noon.
Incomplete applications may not be considered by the Committee.
Students are encouraged to verify that their file is complete by calling the office early enough that you can take action prior to the deadline.
The day and hour of the deadline are firm.

Scholarships

Available to UTC Students in Studies at McGill University or Université de Montréal:

  • One scholarship of $2000 annually for a student registered for two courses per semester (candidate or in discernment)
  • Two scholarships of $4000 annually for students registered for three courses per semester (candidate or in discernment)
  • Two scholarships of $6000 annually for students registered for full time studies (four or more courses per semester ) (candidate or in discernment)

Available to UTC Students in Studies at Université de Montréal:

  • One scholarship of $3000 – $6000 tailored to full or part time studies for a UTC student at Université de Montréal as candidates present (candidate or in discernment)

Available to UTC Students in Studies at McGill University:

  • A. R. Gordon Scholarship (received as gift by McGill University with the Capital held and invested by McGill University) 
This Scholarship is only available to Students of the United Theological College who receive it by recommendation of the College and in consultation with the Dean of Religious Studies of McGill. Revenue of approx $ 20,000 annually to be organized as per the direction of the UTC
  • Two scholarships of $ 7,500 annually (candidate or in discernment or doctoral studies).
  • One scholarship of $5,000 for an individual exploring theological studies who is interested in ministry but with no formal process yet in place (not renewable).

Criteria:
Applicants are considered on the basis of:

  • Academic merit
  • Promise or potential for ministry
  • Evidence of community leadership
  • Commitment to the Church and potential to contribute to the UTC community
  • Particular contribution to specialized ministries.

Terms:

  • A minimum B average
  • 1 year of full-time studies (or equiv.) at the university level
  • A B average to be maintained throughout the academic year in which the scholarship is given
  • All courses must be completed (in the event that a “K” -”incomplete” is requested, it must be resolved with a grade being received no later than thirty days after the final day of the semester)
  • Involvement in local church communities as well as participate in the life of UTC
  • Scholarships are provided in two installments (September / January).

Application process:
Application to the Financial Aid Committee, UTC:

  • A detailed CV
  • A copy of all academic transcripts
  • Any other material that candidates wish to submit in support to the named criteria
  • Two letters of reference supporting the application – posted directly to UTC by the referee
  • No reporting of financial circumstances is required or considered
  • Students will reapply annually for these scholarships.

Bursaries:

Application to UTC Students in Studies at McGill University or Université de Montréal:

Criteria:
Applicants are considered primarily on the basis of:

  • financial need
  • promise of potential for ministry
  • evidence of community leadership
  • commitment to the Church and potential to contribute to the UTC community
  • particular contribution to specialized ministries

Terms:

  • a minimum of two courses per semester is required for eligibility
  • funding is intended to address current living/educational expenses, those expenses normally occurring over a period of eight months
  • all courses must be completed (in the event that a “K” -“incomplete” is requested, it must be resolved with a grade being received no later than thirty days after the final day of the semester
  • involvement in local church community as well as participation in the life of UTC
  • in the event that a student applying for a bursary has also been awarded a scholarship from UTC, this amount shall be disclosed on the financial disclosure form or will be entered by the committee at the time of the award
  • scholarships are provided in two installments (September / January)
